Sitting here on New Year's Day 2023 I felt the need for a hot healing drink. I didn't have to look long ... I found this one at Food Matters.
Y'see I fell on the last day of November. And it's been a looong road back.
I'm still walking with a cane ... and am slowly feeling better. I've also got a great healer/chiropractor that's helping a lot. Since nothing was broken ... the doctor just told me to go home.
But enough of that. Let's focus instead on a gut-healing "Strong Gut Solution". My "hot toddy for the body" is anti-inflammatory too.
As you know (or maybe you didn't) ... leaky gut leads to inflammation. When stuff leaks into the bloodstream that shouldn't be there, it causes inflammation.
And since most of the immune system is in the gut, it mobilizes to mop up the inflammation. What starts as a localized autoimmune reaction then can become systemic inflammation ... with sometimes dire consequences..
We've known for a long time that inflammation is the eventual cause of much chronic illness. Yet the medical community doesn't address it at all.
I address it with "Strong Gut Solution" recipes. As what heals the gut also cools down inflammation. And we all need that!
I know about the healing properties of most of the spices and roots in this recipe. And talk about many of them in my Immune-Support Smoothie recipe.
But I didn't know that pairing turmeric with black pepper helps increase the body’s ability to absorb and digest curcumin (the main active ingredient in turmeric). Black pepper has anti-inflammatory properties of its own too.
It's an interesting fact (and something you probably DIDN'T know) that when you pair two natural compounds together ... they both become stronger.
Drinking this warm healing toddy is great for this cold and rainy time of year. Especially if your immune-system needs a little (or big) boost boost like mine.
Oh ... and want to make your own cashew milk? Here's a recipe ... Drink it UP!
A potent gut-healing and inflammation-cooling hot toddy filled with restorative spices and other great ingredients to warm your body and soul.
Heat the cashew milk in a small saucepan over medium heat for 2–3 minutes or until just warmed.
Add the spices, ginger, vanilla and pepper, and then stir to remove any lumps.
Remove from the heat and pour through a fine strainer to remove the grated ginger.
Add the stevia to taste and have when hot or warm.
