Truth be told ... I'm not a huge fan of tea ... especially since I now have to drink foul-smelling and tasting ones with names I can't even pronounce from my acupuncturist. But I wanted to bring you some sort of Paleo sleep tonic ... hence Fab 'n Fast Paleo Sleepy-Bye Milk.
Sorry for the cuteness ... but the name coincides with my Jill's Sleepy-Bye Supplements protocol in my Fullscript apothecary. It's in honor of the 75% (mostly women) of Americans that don't sleep well. And the fact that I don't sleep well either.
This recipe is almost verbatim from Amanda at the HeartBeet Kitchen. But I've also added my own twist with tart cherry powder supplements if you can't find the juice (please ... not in glass bottles as the juice gets cooked in processing!). Tart cherry is chock full of nature-kissed melatonin ... a sleep hormone secreted at certain times of day to help the body transition to sleep and tryptophan ... which helps the body produce melatonin.
Also included is ashwagandha ... an ancient herb that ... in research studies (one even reported a 72% improvement in sleep) ... show that it may help people fall asleep faster, spend more time asleep, and experience better sleep quality. And almond milk ... which helps the body make GABA that promotes calmness, reduces anxiety, stabilizes blood pressure and promotes restful sleep. Almonds are also a good source of melatonin.
And those rose petals aren't only for looks! In studies, it has shown effective results in inducing sleep comparable to diazepam ... a drug used to calm muscles and reduce anxiety.
This qualifies as Fab 'n Fast Paleo too as it has 5 ingredients and a 10-minute prep tune. Oh ... and did I tell you it was delicious too! So have your teas if you want!
There are many ... chamomile, lavender, valerian ... even rose (some times they're all together in a blend) and more that rock you to sleep. But I'll have my soothing pink milk thank YOU ...
