If you LOVE pasta and want a quick but AMAZING sauce to go with it, this is it! Paleo Spaghetti Sauce with Ground Beef is it!
I found this in ... of all places ... allrecipes.com just browsing around for a simple sauce to have on hand in the freezer for a quick meal. I also love my other recipe ... Slow Cooker Spaghetti and Meatballs ... but don't always have the time or inclination to make it.
This recipe is also great if you're a busy working Mom ... I used to leave a container of sauce to thaw on the counter with instructions for my significant other ... who was great at BBQing but little else ... to boil pasta and add sauce. In those days, we didn't have cell phones. So I would call at the last phone booth I could find. By the time I got home, we had dinner!
You can vary this according to your sensitivities by using different meats (i.e. ground pork, turkey, chicken ... even "Beyond Meat" original beef crumbles). Since I'm sensitive to onions, I use fennel instead ... cooked it's a great onion alternative.
I also love to use herbs fresh and local from the Farmer's Market. But dried will do just as well. And grind some lavender up for that mysterious, layered taste that no one can figure out!
The sauce itself is naturally Paleo. You can use a low-carb pasta like Banzaa (not totally Paleo but close ... and I LOVE the orzo shape for a rice substitute) or spiralized zucchini, sweet potato ... or even cooked spaghetti squash with it.
If you not so strict, cook up some Gluten Free pasta of your choice. And add some Violife "just like parmesan" (it REALLY is!) for a can't miss food-sensitive meal. Eat it up FOR REAL!
Here's a super-simple but simply-superb (and naturally Paleo) Spaghetti Sauce with Ground Beef recipe! Dietitian Jill also varies it according to your food sensitivities.
Cook ground beef (or other meat) in large non-stick saute pan until brown, breaking up lumps. Drain on paper towels to reduce fat. Wipe out pan. (skip the draining and paper towels if using leaner cuts like chicken or turkey ).
Add oil to pan; turn heat to medium. Add onion (fennel), garlic, and green pepper and saute until vegetables are tender, about 5-7 minutes.
Stir diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste into pan. Season with dried spices (skip if using fresh), salt, and pepper. Turn heat to low and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
If using fresh herbs and/or "Beyond Meat", add these after about 45 minutes of cooking.
