OK ... I've been talking about smoothies in all of my handouts and diets. But never given you a recipe for them.
I have tons! But the reality is that smoothies are as individual as the people that make them. So I'm giving you lots of options to create your own recipe.
Me ... I don't like veggies at all in my smoothies ... unless it's something sweet like watercress or carrot juice. So I like different types of fruit ... frozen to give the smoothie more body.
Frozen bananas (simply skin and store in the freezer) give smoothies a ton of thickness ... they're also a prebiotic that feeds good probiotic bacteria. And then I like to add gut-healing supplements
Yes ... supplements. I know these recipes are food-based. But adding certain supplements can super-power them ... especially when used in a smoothie!
First ... bone broth or collagen protein. Bone broth has been touted by many experts to be gut-healing. But I'm not a huge fan of drinking the recommended ton of it.
Therefore ... this is a terrific alternative. I really like the Ancient Nutrition brand but there are many others. But I'm giving you this one to consider. Use a scoop or two in your smoothie.
Next ... Glutamine. An amino acid, it has a tried-and-true history of gut-healing. When I worked in the cancer community, Glutamine was part of my protocol to protect guts from the ravages of chemotherapy.
I often say that ... if it'll work well in those circumstances, it'll work for you. 5 to 10 grams (usually 1 to 2 tsp.) is a GREAT idea.
Lastly, this supplement called "Greens Pak". It's a ... according to the package "phyto-nutrient powder that is loaded with energy-packed raw whole foods, super fruits, antioxidant foods, vegetables, enzymes, probiotics, fiber and plant extracts to help energize your body".
None of us eat enough fruits and vegetables ... including me sometimes. This is a great way to get them ... and it's CHOCOLATE too (but also comes in berry flavor if you like that better). Open a package and add it to the mixture.
You can get all these on "Dietitian Jill's Supplement Place" (click on the name) ... my handy dispensary for therapeutic-grade supplements that are only sold by practitioners. Just click on my Fullscript store, create a login, click on "Catalog", and under "Practitioner categories" you'll see "Smoothie Stuff".
There they are ... all three just for you. You can buy them and have them shipped to your house ... it's that easy!
Interested in others? I'd suggest my RDX Prescription Solution (click on the name). So I can choose exactly the ones for you. Or explore other treatment options.
Here's a recipe for a truly fast and super smoothie powered-up with gut-healing supplements. Add some fruits, vegetables, and good-fat avocado for a spectacular snack or meal. Slurp it up ... FOR REAL!
Add all chosen fruit (don't forget the frozen banana) and vegetables (if desired) to blender, Nutribullet, or Ninja (my fave as I've burned out 2 Nutribullets so far).
Add some non-dairy milk of your choice (or water or juice), and Add-Ins if desired. Add supplements and then more milk (Greens Pak doesn't blend well) either to max line of Nutribullet or Ninja or as desired to blender.
Blend until smooth. Stop and scrape down sides if necessary. Pour into container of your choice if using blender. Use a metal straw to slurp up and ENJOY! I like to freeze and pack them (with the straw) for lunch.
